A Few Health and Safety tips when using our flight cases



Flight Cases Safety Manual handling causes over a third of all workplace injuries. Flight cases by their very nature are usually manually being moved and lifted within many different surroundings, some ideal, some not so.

With the above in mind and the fact that loaded flight cases vary in weight and size, care should be taken when lifting or moving our flight cases.

Our flight cases are designed with a radius on all edges for more comfortable handling whilst our larger cases are fitted with large reccessed handles with rubber grips to enable a positive grip and all hardware is recessed whenever possible.

By request our flight cases can be fitted with locking castors for when stationary. The mechanism locks both the roll and the swivel. These are operated by a foot lever and should not be operated by hand. When locking castors are not fitted take care to leave cases on a flat surface where they cannot be sent rolling should they get nudged. If in doubt chock the wheels so they cannot roll away and cause damage to objects or people.

Some of our cases are fitted with various tie down points, these are NOT for lifting/flying the flight case, they are there to secure the load in transit only.

Our flight cases can be safety moved by a qualified forklift driver and by the use of load straps, again supervised by a qualified person. Slings, span sets etc should NOT be attached to handles or tie down points and should lift from the underside of the flight case.

If you intend to lift or fly our flight cases and require lifting / rigging points please make this known to us at the time of enquiry as often internal components and safety systems need to be put in place during construction for eventual certification.

When our flight cases have been designed and fitted with lifting or rigging facilities all lifting points are always clearly marked with a SWL (Safe Working Load) label.
Remember NO SWL LABEL equals NO LIFTING POINT.

For guidance on manual handling the HSE (Heath and Safety Executive) is a good source for rules, regulations and information. For those working in the entertainment industry the PSA (Production Services Association) also offer a lot of advice for safe working within their environment which can often involve interaction with public areas.
